Conference of US Secretary of Transportation (US DOT) and International Sleep Science Technology Association (ISSTA) Experts
5 Missions after US DOT Official Meeting
First of all, ISSTA has arranged a visit to Deputy Secretary of US Department of Labor (DOL), Mr. Pizzella, as well as other officials and experts in DOL on June 12th (could be postponed due to COVID-19 pandemic) to further discuss the correlation between sleep related health, fatigue and occupational safety in the work place, with providing scientific evidences toward providing a solution.
Second, the Sleep & Public Safety Consortium (SPSC) inaugural meeting and forum are planned to be launched in Philadelphia on June 13th (could be postponed due to COVID-19 pandemic) and will extend invites to the US DOT, US DOL, AIT, ISSTA, AAO- HNS, AASM, and related institutes to participate. ISSTA Taiwan Chapter will provide SPSC's mission, vision, goals, and action plans for the review by the US DOT and DOL and will strive for alignment on goals between all stakeholders prior to the inaugural meeting.
Following this meeting, the third mission will be participation/facilitation for GCTF (Global Cooperation and Training Framework) and Indo-Pacific Initiative from ISSTA, IMHTC Asia-Pacific Branch, and affiliated organizations with industrial members by leveraging the “New South-Bond Policy on Medicine” of Taiwan and evangelizing the policy among countries in South East Asia through professional training and business development efforts.
The fourth mission will be for ISSTA Taiwan Chapter to work with US DOT to finalize the 2022 APEC Public Safety Agenda (based on the 2017 APEC Sleep Technology Agenda – Sleep: An Innovative Approach to Reduce Health Expenditure, to Increase National Productivity and to Promote Public Safety).
Finally, the fifth mission will be a commitment to the collaboration and exchange of ideas and data related to the COVID-19 pandemic between Taiwan and the U.S. The goal will be to leverage Taiwan’s effective, tried-and-true approaches to successfully flattening the curve of infected citizens, as exhibited during Taiwan’s management on both SARS and COVID-19 pandemics, and provide guidance on the public health methods the U.S. can leverage to control the spread of the COVID-19 virus.
